REBNY Commercial Management Leadership Awards Announced

The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) held its annual Commercial Management Leadership Breakfast and recognized honorees in eight categories, including four categories that are new this year: Porter of the Year; Security Professional of the Year; Engineer of the Year; and the Rising Star of the Year Award.
A record of 760 people turned out for the event. Bill Rudin, CEO of Rudin Management and Chairman of the Association for a Better New York, gave the Keynote Speech.
Terry Whalen, President of First New York Partners, was named the Edward A. Riguardi Commercial Management Executive of the Year. A REBNY member since 1994, he previously received REBNY's George M. Brooker Management Man of the Year award in 2002 and serves on REBNY's Management Division Board of Directors. He currently has responsibility for all management and operations for the Forest City Ratner Companies' portfolio of commercial real estate in the New York City area and has overseen the formulation of all of the firm's management systems.
The John M. Griffin Community Service Award went to Jeff Caimi, Property Manager, Paramount Group. He has spearheaded numerous community initiatives and has been involved with Hope for New York, Habitat for Humanity, and the Don't Walk By program for the homeless.
The honor of On-Site Manager of the Year was awarded to Cindy Boyea, Property Manager, Paramount Group. She recently established a co-generation system at 1301 Avenue of the Americas that has the potential to save $1 million a year in avoided electricity and steam costs.
Dennis Sherry, Director of Asset Services, CB Richard Ellis won the Portfolio Manager of the Year Award. He manages 6 million feet of commercial space and formerly managed the Lehman Brothers account, where he oversaw 25 employees.
Winners for this year's newest awards were:
• Porter of the Year: Amy Cobic, Light Duty Cleaning Person, Cushman and Wakefield, Union member of 32BJ;
• Security Professional of the Year Award: Bob Friedman, EAP/FSD, Temco Services, Union member of 32BJ;
• Engineer of the Year: Steve Giangrande, Chief Engineer, Hines, Union member of Local 94;
• Rising Star of the Year Award: David Witthuhn, Associate, Paramount Group.
